Maâlma Yamna, whose real name was Yamna Bent El Hadj El Mahdi, was an Algerian musician born in Algiers in 1859. She is one of the great masters of sanâa music, the only woman to have received the title of maâlma for her mastery of the citadin repertoire. She died on July 1, 1933 in Algiers.
