From Elk Hide to Shoes! Complete Build

Not long ago I posted a video showing how to make leather from animal hides using the ancient bark tanning method. In this video I’ll use the bark tanned leather from that project to make some hand made moccasin style turn shoes for hunting this fall. These medieval shoes are comfortable, quiet and relatively easy to make, although it does take a while to make all the stitches by hand. I always strive to use every animal I take while hunting as completely as possible. Leather working projects like this are just another way we can do that. The thin, soft soles are perfect for sneaking quitetly through the forest, which is primarily what I’ll be using them for. But they’d also be great footwear for reenactments. We’re uploading a new video each week that features one of the following topics: archery, bow hunting, bow building, survival skills, bushcraft, self reliance, primitive skill
