Tommy Dorsey, ’Marie’ (Irving Berlin)

The great American jazz trombonist, composer, arranger, conductor and bandleader Tommy Dorsey (1905-1956), known as the ’Sentimental Gentleman of Swing’, and his big band, performing in the movie ’The Fabulous Dorseys’ (1947), with Sara Allgood (1880-1950) as Mrs. Dorsey, and singers Janet Blair (1921-2007) and Stuart Foster (1918-1968). ’Marie’ was written in 1928 by the Russian American composer and lyricist Irving Berlin (1888-1989). He is widely considered one of the greatest songwriters in history. His music forms a great part of the Great American Songbook.
