Toscanini and the Philharmonia - Brahms: Symphony No 2 (1952)

Johannes Brahms Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 73 1. Allegro non troppo (0:07) 2. Adagio non troppo (14:34) 3. Allegretto grazioso (22:48) 4. Allegro con spirito (27:56) Arturo Toscanini, conductor Philharmonia Orchestra Recorded on September 29, 1952 at Royal Festival Hall, London It is rarely that a series of restorations on this channel generates the glowing praise and commentary as this series of Brahms performances with the Philharmonia. It is not, however, surprising. The concerts in this series are legendary, and the reviews over the past seventy years have been consistent in their appraisal of Toscanini’s artistry with this music. The Great Maestro seemed to have a special place in his heart for this music, and it comes through on all of his recorded performances.
