Three days of heavy rains have inundated the valley around the capital Kathmandu. People were trapped on rooftops and rescuers had to rescue them on rafts and helicopters. The Kosi River, known as the River of Sorrows, has swelled to critical levels. Thousands of riverside homes were also flooded and many highways were blocked. A government spokesman said more than 3,000 people have been rescued so far. The flooding has also damaged water pipes and affected telephone and power lines. The government has urged people to avoid unnecessary travel and banned night driving in the valley. Air travel has al
