This Australian Beach House Has Been Designed to Withstand the Harsh Coastal Environment

A couple with children approached Torquay-based architect Lachlan Shepherd Architects with a unique site overlooking the golf course and Jan Juc Beach. The husband and children are avid surfers, so part of the brief was to connect with the ocean and monitor the breaks from their home, but also have practical aspects upon returning, such as a shower and wetsuit drying cupboard. The home needed to be robust to withstand the saline and harsh coastal environment and the cold winters and hot summers. Lachlan Shepherd carefully chose Colorbond and timber cladding for this beach house. The striking tinted glass allows the owners to enjoy their ocean view without feeling like they can be seen by everyone going past. Website article with photographs and the floor plan;
