The premises could accommodate up to 120 students. During its 44 years of action, devastatingly, the school failed the children in the worst way possible. In the 1960s, a number of men employed and residing at the school, including the housemaster, were carrying out acts of sexual assault on boys under the age of 16. They were only brought to justice in 1998. The school closed in 1986 and later became a care home for the elderly before being left abandoned in 2016.
