The attack comes as the Israeli army presses ahead with its largest operation for two decades in the West Bank, in the refugee camp of Jenin. The Hamas militant group praised the car ramming as “heroic” and “revenge for the military operation in Jenin”. The attacker was shot and killed by a civilian after he crashed into pedestrians on the pavement and attempted to stab others. The Palestinian authorities have described Israel’s operation, which it says is a pursuit of Palestinian militants, as a war crime. Ten Palestinians have been killed, including three children, and 100 injured in the two-day operation, according to health officials. Another Palestinian was killed in a clash with Israeli soldiers at a roadblock near Ramallah.
