“Economic Insanity” | Labour To Delay Ban On New Petrol Cars

Ministers are set to delay a full ban on new petrol cars by allowing hybrids to be sold until 2035. Labour’s manifesto had aimed to stop the sale of all new internal combustion engine cars by 2030, including hybrids. However, due to driver concerns about electric vehicles and industry pressure, the Government is expected to permit hybrids for an additional five years. Tory shadow transport secretary Helen Whately criticised Labour’s original pledge, suggesting they didn’t fully understand its implications. Motorists have shown more interest in hybrids than electric vehicles, with manufacturers like Volvo and Toyota extending hybrid production.
