Aneka: Japanese Boy [The Complete Recordings, Vol. 1] (1981)

Scottish folk singer Mary Sandeman (born 1947) recorded the track Japanese Boy early 1981 and achieved a record deal with Hansa International. To promote the single she adapted the artist name Aneka and dressed up as a Japanese lady. Released in the summer of 1981, the single reached #1 in the UK, Belgium and Sweden, and #3 in Germany. It secured her an album deal, and the second single Little Lady was released in October that year and secured her a Top 10 hit in Europe but it only reached #50 in the UK charts. Ooh Shooby Doo Doo Lang was released in February 1982 and provided her with another Top 20 hit in Europe. I Was Free was belatedly released in October 1982, and her new recordings in 1983 all failed to charts, and Aneka quietly retired from the music scene and has never performed her hits again. She was last known to be working as a part-time tour guide in the Scottish town of Stirling. This compilation gathers all her recordings, including non-album tracks and long versions
