A transmetatarsal amputation is a good salvage procedure. Once healed, the patient is able to walk and get back to full activities. There is no need for a brace or a prosthesis.
Balance is maintained and equipment like a crutch or walker are seldom needed.
This is a good technique guide for residents and medical students.
