Myanmar Coup: Military Leader’s TV Address Sparks More Angry Protests

Huge protests and a nationwide strike have swept Myanmar after a military coup ousted the democratically-elected government last week. Min Aung Hlaing, the head of the new military junta, tried to justify the takeover in his first TV address. He said the general election in November, which his party lost, had been unfair. The election was comfortably won by the party of Aung San Suu Kyi, who has now been detained.
