السيدة الإفريقية (بالفرنسية: Notre Dame d’Afrique)‏ هي كاتدرائية كاثوليكية تقع في العاصمة الجزائرية، تأسست عام 1872.[1] تقع الكاتدرائية الرومانية الكاثوليكية في منطقة باب الواد، أشهر الأحياء الشعبية في العاصمة الجزائرية، وعلى علو 228 مترا من سطح البحر. إذ تعتبر من أشهر كنائس منطقة المتوسط والعالم وأول كنيسة كاثوليكية تشيد في أفريقيا، وبقيت إلى يومنا هذا فاتحة أبوابها للأقلية المسيحية في الجزائر والزوار. بُنيت كنيسة السيدة الإفريقية سنة 1872 واستغرق ذلك 14 سنة كاملة (1858)، وقام ببنائها المهندس المعماري الفرنسي «فرومجو» الذي اعتمد على الطراز البيزنطي. تعود تسميتها إلى «سيدة أفريقية سوداء» تدعى «مارغريت بيرغر» والتي قدِمت رفقة الأسقف «بافي» من مدينة ليون الفرنسية إلى الجزائر سنة 1836 لتُشيد أول «كنيسة للعذراء» على الأرض الأفريقية. [1] The Roman Catholic cathedral is located in the Bab El Oued area, the most popular neighborhood in the Algerian capital, at an altitude of 228 meters from sea level. As it is considered one of the most famous churches in the Mediterranean region and the world and the first Catholic church to be built in Africa, it has remained to this day opening its doors to the Christian minority in Algeria and visitors. The Church of Our Lady of Africa was built in 1872, and it took 14 full years (1858), and it was built by the French architect “Fromgo”, who relied on the Byzantine style. Its name goes back to a “black African woman“ named “Margaret Berger“, who came with Bishop “Bavi“ from the French city of Lyon to Algeria in 1836 to build the first “Church of the Virgin“ on African soil.
