Rafał Blechacz performs Chopin’s Waltz in C-Sharp Minor at Steinway & Sons Hamburg (Pt. 1)

2014 Gilmore Artist Rafał Blechacz recently visited the Steinway & Sons showroom in Hamburg, Germany to choose a new Steinway & Sons piano. This piece was recorded at that piano was purchased with funds from Mr. Blechacz’s Gilmore Artist Award. When asked by Steinway & Sons about why Mr. Blechacz received the Gilmore Artist Award, Executive and Artistic Director of The Gilmore, Pierre van der Westhuizen, remarked that, “Rafał as a pianist is known for being polished and refined, and dynamic onstage. What differentiated him with the nominating committee was his questioning mind, and his process for digging deeply into the music.
