Bukharian Jewish Singer and People’s Artist of Tajikistan, as well as the winner of the State Prize of Rudaki, BARNO (BAKHMAL) ISKHAKOVA, sings three separate traditional Shashmaqom tunes in Tajik called ALLAYO (A lullaby), NASRULLOI (lyrics by Persian poet, Sayido), and NAVRUZI SABO (with lyrics by Persian poet Hafez Shirazi). These songs were among the most famous of her Shashmaqom repertoire and made her the most famous female Shashmaqom performer in the history of Tajikistan and all of the Soviet Union. She was very famous for her rendition of traditional Shashmaqom (a type Central Asian Music) songs in Tajik and Uzbek, Russian, as well as her mother tongue of Bukhori (Judeo-Tajik Language). Even though Barno is no longer alive, her voice and spirit remains alive among the hearts of millions of fans throughout Central Asia, Israel, and the United States as well as other countries around the world.
