Shooting a 4mm diameter 30mm long sharpened steel rod through 10mm thick aluminum plate. Capacitor bank: 3x 4700uF 450V inverter grade capacitors, 1428J total energy, charge in this video was about 410V so energy that was used is about Charger: 555-timer driven flyback.
