Full title reads: “Shrove Tuesday Football. Alnwick and Ashbourne stage old-time customs“. Alnwick, Northumberland. Various shots of game of football played by all men in village. The ball is thrown into crowd from battlements of Alnwick castle. The goals are made from branches covered in greenery. In the end the game turns into a fight for the ball in the River Aln. Ashbourne, Derbyshire. Natural sound. M/S of two men and a crowd of kids. One of the men holds aloft a ball and announces as secretary of Shrovetide Football Committee he has great pleasure in presenting it to Mr. Charles Tirby of Derby to throw.
