Loonie Lids (1933)

“A Fashion Forecast for 1950 by our Captive Cartoonist - Joe Noble.“ Introductory intertitle reads: “In olden times fashions were designed simply for looks. No attention was paid to utility.“ Drawing of a man who wears a hat with a feather sticking out of it. C/U drawing of a woman wearing a shawl around her head. Drawing of a woman in the year 1300 wearing a draped head dress. Mediaeval style headgear. 1400 A.D. is represented by a scarf with a little hat perched on top. A wimple is next. Various depictions of Elizabethan head gear and other styles from other eras follow. “Our cartoonist, normally quite harmless, foretells a few “useful“ fashions of the future.“ Through stop frame animation we see drawings and words appear from the point of a pencil. “Poor old henpeck. Even he will be looked after in 1950.“ A man is shown laden down with parcels. Joe Noble draws him a hat with little pegs all around the edges so that he can hook the parcels over them.
