Canning Town fire: Firefighters battle major blaze as black smoke visible across London

A major fire has broken out in Canning Town sending plumes of black smoke into the sky. London Fire Brigade is battling the blaze near Silvertown Way. Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters are at the scene. One witness said on social media: “Ominous scene this morning in Canning Town but police and firemen out in force, making us all feel safe. Looks like only the building sites are affected.” Firefighters have asked people to avoid the area as they respond to the scene. The A1011 Silvertown Way is closed between the A13 Canning Town Flyover and Hallsville Road as emergency services respond.
