Stream it now on @ AmazonStudios @ AppleTV and @ Rokuplayer This project means a lot to me because I was able to express my creativity in many ways, starting with my role as a producer and as an actress. But, more importantly, this project sits at the intersection of my career in film and my work as a human rights advocate. When I first got the script, I felt compelled to change the original storyline and make the character fall in love with a woman. I understand the important role the media plays in promoting diversity in all of its forms. I’m a strong believer that the more we normalize LGBTQ relationships as well as minority leads, the more accepting the world will become. Not every film that features diversity needs to have it blatantly pandered to every time. You’ll notice in the film that my sexuality is never addressed. Similarly, the color of my skin is rarely addressed in the movies I’ve shot in the last few years. In Heatwave, I play the role of a woman who has dreams, desires, relationships, and heartbreaks. The fact that I am a certain ethnicity or sexuality is something other people observe, but that’s not something I walk with... And, that is why I changed the storyline. Let’s get this Long Hot Summer party started!!!
