The company posted the video after Ismat Raza wrongly claimed she opened a Lipton teabag and found several creatures wriggling inside before posting her supposed ’evidence’ as a video on Facebook. In the clip, Ismat says: “It is in each and every teabag of lemon flavour green tea. You can see there are living worms inside. “It’s not one or two, it’s a lot.“ She then opens a second teabag and claims to discover even more worms. Ismat confirmed that the teabags were packaged in November 2015. The expiry date was reportedly in October 2017. The video was supposedly filmed in Dubai before being shared on social media. Lipton immediately posted a response to the video on Facebook , writing: “In response to the video of Lipton’s Lemon Green Tea bags, there are no “worms” in our tea bags. “These are small lemon flavour pieces which have been mistaken for worms. If you put these lemon flavour pieces in hot water they will dissolve as you can see from this video. “The tea is of the highest quality standard and is absolutely safe to consume. The statement has new been viewed more than 79,700 times on the social media site. Dubai Municipality also responded to the video and posted a comment in support of Lipton on Instagram. The caption read: “The people in the video are spreading rumours recently and claiming they care about the public health in society while they do the opposite and spread false information based on people’s imaginations with no scientific or logical basis. “The Food Safety Management at Dubai Municipality would like to show the consumers the ignorance of such people and advises everyone not to circulate such videos but instead going to the responsible authorities to verify the information and get the correct and trusted scientific answer from official scientific and legal authorities. #Worms2023 #UsefulWoman #kitchentest
