Breeding wheat for a changing climate

The CSIRO are using climate modelling to target their wheat pre-breeding program – to give growers access to new crop varieties suited to future climate conditions. In this video, CSIRO Chief Scientist Greg Rebetzke explains the desirable traits his team are focusing on, and how this research is working to increase wheat yield and profitability in increasingly drier, hotter and variable growing regions. Greg’s 2020 Grains Research Update paper contains detailed information about this pre-breeding research.
