Lisa Hanawalt: Being Human by Being Animal

For as long as there have been stories about people, there have been stories about animal headed people. But, most recently, Lisa Hanawalt’s characters have carved a new space in the public consciousness for animal people - from her work as production designer on the Netflix series BoJack Horseman, and as the creator of Tuca and Bertie as well as independent comics - and I think it’s these characters, more than any others, that are most able to both distance us and bring us closer to being human.
