Aida (1951) Film with Sophia Loren and Lois Maxwell, pt. 1
A famous opera film. While this is in some respects the height of 1950s’ cinema kitsch, it is nonetheless a fascinating take on Aida. With the voices of Tebaldi, Stignani, Bechi and Campora. Aida is played by Sophia Loren. Amneris, upstaging her (as so often happens in actual Aida performances), is the great Canadian actress, Lois Maxwell, who some 10 years later created the role of Miss MoneyPenny in the James Bond series.
In the opening credits, Maxwell managed to get her name on a single card, while the others, including Sophia Loren, are grouped in a list.
