LDM #240: Magnetic Anomaly Detector AN/ASQ-504 Part 1: First examination

This video shows the teardown of an ASQ-504 Magnetic Anomaly Detector using optical pumping magnetometer. The head of this device contains a 3-axes magnetometer and is orientated using servo controls along the earth magnetic field. Minute changes of the magnetic field indicates the presence of a metallic thing below the aircraft. Links:
