A look at Chorley Town Hall Clock on Tuesday 25th July 2017.
The present Chorley Town Hall, along with the clock tower, was opened in 1875 to replace another building. This was not demolished until the 1930s so for over 50 years Chorley had two Town Halls.
The clock was built by Gillett, Bland and Co and contains 5 bells - 4 for the Westminster Chime and 1 for striking the hours.
Out of interest, from 1985 to 2006, the hall contained a Compton cinema pipe organ originally built in 1938 for the Grand Cinema in Southport. After being removed from the cinema in the 1960’s, the organ spent some years in Cheetham Hill Methodist Church IN Manchester. When that church closed, it was re-installed at Paramount Organ Studios, Bolton. Then, after a few years, it moved again to an organ studio in Hyde. In 1985, it was moved to Chorley Town Hall, where for 20 years it played for concerts and dances. In 2006, Chorley Council decided that they no longer wanted an organ in their building, and the
