The US Rifle, Caliber .30, M1, commonly known as the M1 Garand. Designed by John C. Garand and adopted by the United States in 1936, replacing the Model 1903 rifle, it was the first standard issue semi-automatic rifle adopted by the US. Gen. Patton famously referred to the M1 as “the greatest battle implement ever devised. It is chambered for the .30-06 () cartridge and is loaded with an 8 round enbloc clip.
