Our first sailing season as the new owners of the schooner Pegasus.
Even though we are the current owners of Pegasus we believe one does not own a classic wooden boat but instead we are her current stewards taking care of her and maintaining her heritage until the time comes when we pass her onto the next steward that steps forward to provide her with the dedication required of her pedigree and history.
Her new home port of Big Tancook Island gives us unlimited access to all of Mahone Bay, the 365 islands within the bay and the endless sea that lies beyond Tancook Island.
The summer of 2022 was a short sailing season for Pegasus after a mid June launch and hurricane Fiona showing up mid September and interrupting what should have been some fine September sailing.
The nautical miles we did sail onboard Pegasus were filled with finding out her good habits and learning the ways in which she needs to be handled, sharing her with friends, competing in our first schooner race and winning, along with wooden boat maintenance and upgrades.
All of this is a labour of love which is the price of admission for the honour and pride of classic wooden boat ownership. We are also proud members of the Nova Scotia Schooner Association.
