Physicists warn that the Earth could Feasibly Descend into Chaos

Phase transitions are a fascinating phenomena in nature. Lower the temperature of water from C to C and it is still liquid water. Then lower the temperature again the same fraction of a degree and it has a profound change of state from a liquid to a solid. Not only that, but the density of the solid is less(!!!!!) than the density of the liquid, allowing life to survive on our planet. Another really fascinating phase transition is from a normal metal to a superconductor. Lowering the temperature of certain metals, which have resistance (albeit small) to the flow of electrons (electrical current) can result in a phase transition to a zero resistance superconductor state. Not close to zero resistance, but actually exactly zero resistance. When physicists do their physicist things, they can treat our transition from the Holocene Era to the Anthropocene Era as a phase transition. As a result, they build theoretical models to study this transition, and these models build on superconductor models using Logistic Maps, lots of impressive equations, and something called Ginsburg-Landau theory. What they find is that it is theoretically possible for the climate state of the Earth to transition from our present state to a state of utter chaotic behaviour; literally a state of chaos.
