Decca Model 120 Gramophone ’The Jazz Me Blues’

Here’s a clip of another of the gramophones from my collection. This is the Decca Model 120 which dates from the late 1920’s - early 1930’s. It’s a front wind machine with a case which is bigger than some other portables, no doubt to maximise internal space to accommodate the large bifurcated horn. It has a flush-mounted motor board, swan-neck tone arm, 10“ turntable, auto stop and a manual brake. The horn only leaves enough room inside for a Garrard, single spring, motor but it will still usually play both sides of a 10“ record on a single wind. It is fitted with a Meltrope III soundbox. The record is ’The Jazz me Blues’ played by the New Orlean Rhythm Kings featuring Wingy Manone (trumpet), George Brunies (trombone) & Sidney Arodin (clarinet), recorded in September 1934 on the Brunswick Records label, No. 02040-B Please visit for more details of my collection.
