Golf Ball Test (1961)

Liverpool, Merseyside. Golf balls are flying in pairs with a great speed across a golf course. Cut to a machine firing the golf balls with great speed and power - it is almost impossible to see them fly out. Voiceover says that this is one of the tests golf balls have to pass to get to a shop. Audience is shortly led through the process of making of the golf ball. First, a hand with golf ball core made of frozen ’special composition’ (voiceover’s remark, no further information in file) placed into machine which winds elastic thread around the core forming a ball. A good long C/U shot of the machine forming a ball can be seen. Balls are then placed into two halves of “a tough protective material“ and further moulded in a press. A woman is seen placing balls into two halves of protective materials and onto a pile ready for moulding. Moulding process involves, voice-over says, the use of steam, hot water and ice cold water.
