Shakespeare’s Birthday (1957)

Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire. Various shots of a procession to commemorate the birth of William Shakespeare. C/Us of people spectating, people in the procession and of flags of many nations which line the route. Narrator recounts some of the history of Stratford and of the Bard. Procession begins at Shakespeare’s Memorial Theatre and passes through the town to Shakespeare’s house. The Mayor of Stratford, Councillor Mrs Waldron, gives the signal to unfurl the flags. Shots of the flags and C/U of a shield bearing the inscription “Sweden“. The procession ends at Holy Trinity Church where flowers are laid at the grave of Shakespeare.
