“Plus Jamais De Guerre!“ - No More War! (1932)

Full title reads: “Belgium. ’Plus jamais de guerre!’ - No More War! - Tens of thousand voices echo over vast River Yser Battlefields at Memorial Service of the dreadful days in August 1914.“ River Yser, Belgium. L/S of the massive war memorial. Streams of people move at its base. Crowds of people gather and watch ranks of flags march past for the service. People in the congregation kneel in prayer. Men on the memorial raise their arms and swords in salute to the dead. C/U of the carving at the top of the memorial - it bears the letters ’AVVKV’ (which mean nothing to me). C/U of carving on the memorial which reads - “Plus Jamais De Guerre“. People in the massive congregation stand up. Low angle shot of the memorial. People in the congregation raise their right arms and intone some words (it looks frighteningly like a nazi salute - but it isn’t - I think they are making a pledge.)
