Back Stage Artist (1965)

Lyric Theatre, London. M/S at night, of the entrance to the Lyric Theatre with cars and people in shot . M/S of a stage set with a steam train on stage for the show ’Robert and Elizabeth’. The show is about Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Keith Michell and June Bronhill in costume, alight from the train in the closing scene, and bow to take a final curtain call. We then see him go off stage, and meet up with Sarah Badel, who is wearing a splendid period carnival gown and head-dress. There are shots of his paintings on the walls, and he gets his pastels out to sketch Sarah. She sits for him, and he gives her the sketch when finished. It’s a quick sketch, but very good, and obviously done with minimum preparation and ’live’ in front of the camera. Keith touches up his make up. We see a man knocking at his dressing room door. We then return to a scene from the play with Keith and June on stage. Note: see CP 542 Cuts on *PM0323* for out takes. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ. EXPL
