Painting Reproductions (1963)

Woburn Abbey, Bedfordshire and London. The Duke of Bedford has breakfast in his (stately) home. He looks around at all the lovely things in his home including lots of Canaletto paintings worth thousands of pounds. Duke walks towards a painting to get a better look - it is a fake! Footage follows of several women painters making reproductions of classic paintings. Officials in the Louvre Museum insist that reproductions are stamped to distinguish them from originals. Various masterpieces are seen in C/U including work by Monet, Picasso, Constable and Rubens. The artists all work in close proximity in a studio - a couple of the girls are pretty glamorous. Men are seen framing the paintings. Madame Fiehl has to approve the brush work - C/U of her inspecting a reproduction. The narrator calls this reproduction technique “The Fiehl Process.“ Narrator says that with these paintings anyone can have a stately looking home. Cuts exist - see separate record.
