The head of Unrwa shares that ‘there is absolutely no safe place in Rafah’

‘There is absolutely no safe place in Rafah,’ said the head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (Unrwa) against the backdrop of Israeli air strikes and a looming ground offensive in a town where more than one million Palestinians have sought refuge. He added that he fears the death toll in Gaza will significantly increase in a war where 5 percent of the population has been killed, injured, or missing, according to UN data. After the US and other countries suspended funding to Unrwa, the largest humanitarian aid group in Gaza, Middle East Eye learned that in a number of cases the decision to withhold funding was based solely on Israel’s assertions.
