Peru: Govt declares environmental emergency over oil spill and announces sanctions

Castillo made the statements during his visit to Cavero beach, one of the most affected areas in Ventanilla, where he said he expected the Repsol-run refinery to assume responsibility in the ecological disaster. “The oil spill that occurred a few days ago has been the most worrying ecological disaster on the Peruvian coast in recent times,“ said Castillo.
