China achieves key breakthrough in development of new-generation ‘artificial sun’

China’s large-scale nuclear fusion reactor, Huanliu-3, has realized the high-confinement mode operation with a plasma current of 1 million amperes for the first time, which marks a significant advance in China’s “three-step“ technology roadmap for sustainable development. Huanliu-3, also known as the country’s new-generation “artificial sun“, is a safe and controllable nuclear fusion reactor operating in high-confinement mode, an advanced mode in magnetic confinement fusion, which is more economical than the general one. The achievement is an important progress for both the long-term development goal of China’s nuclear industry and the ITER, an international nuclear fusion research and engineering megaproject. It contributes to the methods to address energy-related issues, which will ultimately benefit the whole world. __________________ ShanghaiEye focuses on producing top-quality contents.
