[Outdated] MetaReForge: Full Body Metahuman Customization Now Possible in Blender
This tutorial shows a recommended workflow for MetaReForge 1.0 which is NOT SUPPORTED any more. Use 1.1, it is much better and the update does not require any additional fees
Metahumans are known for their advanced and intricate design, but editing them in external applications like Blender can be a complex task. These characters are not only defined by their FBX files but also have numerous dependencies, including DNA files that significantly influence their behavior during animation. Fortunately, Epic Games has developed the DNA-Calibration library to edit such files. However, there hasn’t been a direct way to work with this library in Blender - until now. We’ve bridged this gap, enabling you for the first time to adjust Metahuman neutral joint positions directly in the DNA file from Blender.
Our workflow, though not overly simple, is designed to save time and enhance efficiency. We’ve included additional tools not just for writing DNA files but also for features like automatic transfer of changes to LODs and approximate algorithms for bone position adjustments to fit new meshes “created by you the user“.
The features are initially designed to handle problems of editing Metahumans, but they are not limited to Metahumans only. Some features, for example, ’fit bones’, can currently be applied to any other character. However, at the moment, fully automatic configurations do not exist, so it can be done in a semi-automatic way. We’re committed to expanding the functionality and making this tool even more powerful in the near future.
