Hitler’s Gamble: How he Outwitted the Allies and Mussolini

In 1934 Adolf Hitler had fused the titled of Chancellor and President into one and he had become the supreme leader of Germany. There was no opposition and the nation stood firmly behind him, especially after he dealt with the unruly SA in the Night of the Long Knives. There was still problems to be dealt with however, foreign ones. The foreign press was trying to bring Hitler down at all costs but somehow, Adolf Hitler managed to turn public feeling towards him around, especially in Great Britain. The Nuremberg Rally and the accompanying film Triumph of the Will (Triumph Des Willens) by Leni Riefenstahl was an international success and went down in the history books. The Fuhrer could not have asked for better propaganda. Mussolini tried to destroy Hitler by teaming up with France and Britain, but when the Duce invaded Ethiopia, Hitler took advantage and Mussolini’s Stresa front fell apart. Hitler was now clear to take the biggest gamble of his life, the Remilitarization of the Rhineland.
