Eufonie 2024 Prolog * Filip Wika - Kochanowski Songs - Warsaw

Monodia Polska - Adam Strug Jan Kochanowski was a Polish Renaissance poet who wrote in Latin and Polish and established poetic patterns that would become integral to Polish literary language. He has been called the greatest Polish poet before Adam Mickiewicz and one of the most influential Slavic poets prior to the 19th century The concert on the occasion of the 440th anniversary of Jan Kochanowski’s death will feature the poet’s songs known from school readings and those that contemporaries do not reach for. The composer of the whole is Filip Wika, the music producer is Adam Strug. The Monodia Polska band sings and plays. Filip Wika’s compositions are lyrical and monumental at the same time, growing out of Renaissance music like a branch. However, this is not so-called early music or neo-Renaissance creations. The songs are written so that everyone can sing them – regardless of the degree of vocal proficiency. The performers’ desire is to introduce this repertoire into the bloodstream of contemporary culture, in the form – as it used to be – of a popular singing movement of Poles.
