Lawson Rollins’ amazing Fire Cadenza has got to be one of the hardest guitar solos out there, even without the brutal flamenco-style picado technique that Rollins uses for the right hand.
While banging my head against this wall of notes, so to speak, I came up with this little trick of skipping over some notes entirely while emphasizing others, a bit like the way people slur syllables together when speaking fast.
This has really helped me to get through this one. (And actually if you listen to the original recording slowed down, Rollins himself does it in some bars, so I can’t be totally off base here.)
