Spectacular Orca attack on elephant seal

Spectacular and rare Orca attack on young, adult elephant seal. Location: Attack channel in Punta Norte, Peninsula Valdez, Argentina. According to many experts and the ranger, it was a young adult Elephant seal. It was very interesting, a planned attack in two stages. First the Elephant seal entered the water, became aware of the present Orcas and went back to the other side of the bay. Some time later, we saw some Orcas making a big fuzz, splashing and breaching over there. Then the Elephant seal came back ( we believe this was the purpose of the fuzz ) It entered the water, the Orcas were on position, underwater and far out. When the seal was reaching the deeper part, 4 Orcas spread out to cover the sides and one in the middle attacked. Group effort, planned and very intelligent! Even the present Ranger didn´t think they would attack a young adult Elephant seal at this time of the year, with many easier targets ( sea lion pubs ) around.
