Over 100 demonstrators on both sides shouted and even exchanged punches. While some criticized City Hall’s handling of the crisis, others supported migrants. Counter-protesters also engaged, resulting in a tense standoff with the police present. The clash occurred amid a wave of 100,000 migrants from the southern border, leading Mayor Adams to establish emergency shelters. Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa was arrested at the rally and compared himself to Gandhi.
