Helsinki Longsword Open 2022 - Cutting Competition Finals

This is the final round for the cutting competition at Helsinki Longsword Open 2022. The competition was held in Helsinki . The competitors didn’t know the patterns for the finals before they came to cut. The brief for each target was read just before the finalist was tasked to perform it. The sword chosen for the finals was the Albion Ringeck. It is a narrow and thick bladed type XVa which is more suitable to thrusting than cutting. However in capable hands it will cut just fine. The reason behind the sword choice was to be able to keep the cutting feats themselves to basic cuts. There was no need for any short edge combinations, super thick targets or anything like that. Also historically type XVa swords were very popular. The theme for the whole cutting competition was functional cutting. -------------------------------------- Chapters 0:00 Intro 0:15 Cutting pattern explanations 0:35 Ville Välimäki 4:12 Mattias Brännström 8:35 Kristian Ruokonen 11:59 Scores and Outro -------------------------------------- Music used: XTaKeRuX - Pursuing Darkness - Public Domain Tatami used: Nine Circles Tatami (EU) - Sword used: Albion Ringeck - -------------------------------------- #hema #sword #longsword #ringeck #cutting #competition #tameshigiri #hlo22 #helsinkilongswordopen
