Vuggesang (Lullaby), Op. 41, No. 1, is from one of Edvard Grieg’s set of transcriptions of his own songs. Far from peaceful, the mournful text of “Vuggesang“ reveals a heart-wrenching tragedy: “Sleep my son, laying so softly in your small bed; alas, she who gave life to you now lies peacefully in the cold, dark grave.“ Recorded live at Rieth Recital Hall, Goshen College Music Center (March 9, 2014)
