#advent2021 Day 12 | It Came Upon the Midnight Clear - Richard Storrs Willis

First Christmas carol in this year’s musical Advent calendar! In 1849, Edmund Sears, pastor of the Unitarian Church in Wayland, Massachusetts, wrote a poem that would become one of the most famous Christmas carols. In 1890, the lyrics were set in music by American composer Richard Storrs Willis. In Commonwealth countries the melody is different, having been later adapted by Arthur Sullivan. Sir David Willcocks later wrote choral arrangements for both melodies. Mood: ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth PEACE to those on whom his favour rests.’ - Luke 2:14 📖
