Gojushiho Kata & Applications Part 1

Gojushiho kata, also called “Useishi“ kata, is part of the Matsubayashiryu karate system and comes down to us from the Shurite lineage in Okinawan karate, being attributed to Matsumura Sokon who was famed as bodyguard to three Ryukyu kings in the 19th century. In this session (Part 1) Arakaki sensei led us through the performance of the kata and a step by step examination of some principles and applications that can be derived. Arakaki Toshimitsu sensei learnt directly from Nagamine Shoshin, founder of the Matsubayashiryu school, and is a senior instructor in the WMKA today. In this session we covered the whole kata performance and applications for the first half, due to time limits. Hence this is Part 1 and we hope to add Part 2 in the near future.
