The Cup of Gold Vine gets Pollinated

Chalice Vines or Cup of Gold Vines are canopy plants native to Mexico, Central America and South America. Their hallucinogenic properties were used by ingenious groups in Mexico before the use of the more famous peyote. It’s also known as a “Love Drink“ . This member of the Nightshade family’s huge flowers that open at dusk and are very fragrant. While many bees and flies visit the flowers it’s a Sphinx or Hawk Moth that does the pollination. One can see how they have evolved together; the moth gets exclusive access to the nectar at the base of the flower and the flower gets it’s fruit set.
