Former Bartender Gets Arrested for SECOND DWI in Evesham Township, NJ

Around 1:15 AM on August 7, 2022, Sergeant Gary Borbidge of the Evesham Police Department observed a 2018 BMW driving erratically on Tuckerton Road. He stopped the vehicle after it turned on to Longhurst Road. As he approached the vehicle, he detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage and observed a six pack of Smirnoff under the passenger seat with 2 bottles missing. Officer Isaiha Rose later responded to the scene of a possibly intoxicated driver in the area of Longhurst Road and N Elmwood Road, and the investigation was turned over to him. The driver, 26-year-old Angelique Pappas, told Officer Rose that she was coming from a nearby bar and admitted to having consumed alcohol earlier. Since her speech was slurred and the officer detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage, he afforded her an opportunity to perform field sobriety exercises. Angelique agreed to perform the exercises, and the first exercise involved the Walk and Turn test. She was unable to maintain her starting position or take heel-to-toe steps while counting out loud. The second exercise involved the One Leg Stand test. During this test, Angelique was unable keep her foot 6 inches off the ground as instructed and she kept swinging her arms to balance. The final exercise was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. During this test, Sergeant Borbidge observed a lack of smooth pursuit, distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation, and the onset of nystagmus prior to 45 degrees in both eyes. Based on her traffic infractions, erratic driving patterns, and her inability to adequately perform the field sobriety exercises, Officer Rose placed Angelique under arrest for driving under the influence. She was transported to the Evesham Police Headquarters, where she was read her Miranda rights. Afterwards, Sergeant Borbidge read her the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators and she initially agreed to provide breath samples, but later refused when she he attempted to escort her to the Alcotest machine. After Angelique was processed, she was released to her mother after she signed the Potential Liability Warning form on her behalf.
